One thing I will give Sonny Perdue, Gov of Ga, he actually eradicated the gas tax for a month at one point to give everyone a wee bit of breathing space.

They are raising our gas prices 3 cents per litre (already at 1.14 this week..) via more taxes, but are giving every citizen a rebate. It'll be good for those who use public transportation, not so good for those who drive hummers. :P

(I think that's about $4.50 per gallon)

Everyone in the US is getting a "tax refund" even if they don't pay taxes.

Most people consider that generous, I consider it a very convoluted system of pickpocketing; the government is taking my money away, giving some to other people and giving me the rest back, and I should be grateful?

If they didn't need the money it shouldn't have been collected in the first place.

Our rebate/additional tax is supposed to be a way of encouraging people to drive less and benefit those who take public transportation.

they pay more! And they buy cars with better gas mileage, rather than big trucks. :P

I would love to use more public transport but the 1 bus a day just doesn't hack it. I have given up random trips to the store in exchange for whole planned itineraries if I do have to go somewhere.
